I have a 1978 GS1000 with charging problems and just wondered if anyone on the site had a similar problem and could offer some advice please.
When I put a multimeter across the battery with the bike running the reading is 13v at 5000 rpm.
After testing the voltage regulator according to the Haynes manual, the problem pointed towards a faulty voltage regulator, because when the voltage regulator was removed from the circuit, the multimeter reading was 16.2v.
I got a second hand voltage regulator from a breakers and after it was fitted the results were the same leading me to believe it was also faulty.
Then I got a new Electrex RR10 to replace the regulator and rectifier thinking this would fix the problem.
However with the RR10 installed the charging voltage at the battery is still 13v.
I have checked the resistance readings on the stator, they are all 0.8 Ohms
The battery is not at fault as it holds the 13v no problem.
I am my wits end as nothing seems logical about this!
Can anyone please come up with any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Dan.
