So, I've got this old 81 GS 250 and I'm going crazy trying to get the left spark to do what it was meant to do. This bike has run beautifully in the past but a storm came through and blew it over. Since then I've had nothing but problems with the left spark. I've replaced the coil, I've checked the wiring, I've checked the boot and plug itself but everything seems to be working correctly aside from the fact that I'm getting no spark. This problem is driving me up the wall. I've checked this new coil and the ohms are fluctuating like I guess they should when the bike is running. I don't know what to do any more so I'm turning to you guys. Please give me some input!Tags: None

Hi Mr. roadrashfriendly,
It sounds like you're going to have to go over the wiring harness with a fine tooth comb and inspect everything. Take off the tank, seat, side covers, etc, check and clean all the connections. Look in the electrical page of my little website for more tips and suggestions.

Did it fall over on right side (where signal generator is ) ? Did you remove cover and inspect for damage?1981 gs650L

Welcome to the forums, and yeah I'd be starting where Tom said.
Worst case is your ignitor has failed, but if the right side is sparking like it should then I'd be surprised if that was the case.
Definitely check the state of the signal generator under the timing cover and check continuity on all the wires from the signal generator up to the plug for the ignitor to make sure one of the wires hasn't gotten pinched and broken within the insulation or something like that.
Also worth doing the simple things like unplugging and plugging in the connectors and cleaning with some contact cleaner just in case something has been dislodged.
Also check to make sure all the pins on the connectors are seated correctly and haven't popped out the back of the connector or something.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
