I'm due for a new charging system on my 1982 GS1100GZ (#3 in 50,000km)and wondered if any body had an opinion or first hand knowledge on differences between the products from the 2 manufacturers listed above. I read in the "stator papers" the electrosport regulates all three phases does the RM version do the same thing? thanks for your help

Both are Chinese made and very similar, if not identical. I believe Rick's makes a superior product and it's made in North America.Ed

I've had good luck with RM, as well as Rick's stators. I believe that RM is actually the Canadian distributor of the Electrosport stators. The packaging and appearance of the products certainly lends one to believe that to be the case, anyway.
If you go with an RM/Rick's, you'll note that the voltage coming out across all phases will be a bit lower (about 62 volts) than stock (around 75 volts). No worries though. Works great.Last edited by Griffin; 08-20-2011, 03:16 PM.sigpic

Electrosports I've bought/worked with don't come with the rubber plug for the cover. Ricks do. That alone is worth any extra cost (if any) and the reason I would buy from ricks. Trying to change over that plug is a PITA.Comment

I've used all three; RM, Electrosport, and Rick's. RM and Electrosport seem to be very similar, if not exactly the same. Rick's is my favorite and the one I recommend. The rubber grommet is included, the wires are long enough, and the sheathing is the nice braided type, not cheap rubber (like the others) that gets brittle.
Rick's part may be $20 more but is well worth it. The Rick's part has outlasted the other two stators combined. Be sure ALL your electrical system connections are clean.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies, i just noticed on Rick's Facebook page that RM Stator is now the Canadian distributor for Rick's. I'll persue that on Monday. I'm not concerned about the difference in price if they prove more reliable, but since I'm in Canada shipping over the border can be slow/expensive.
