Will '82 GS750 rectifier work for '79 GS425?
Hey everyone...I was wondering if an '82 GS750 rectifier could possibly work for a '79 GS425? I know the mounting holes won't match up but I was wondering if, on an electrical basis..will it work. There is plenty of room to mount it on the 425 but don't want to fry anything or cause any damage if this is a no-no. Thankssigpic

The '82 750 has a combined Regulator/Rectifier unit. Does your 425 have similar, or does it use a separate regulator and separate rectifier?
Regardless, there are much better R/R units than the '82 Suzuki units. I recommend a late model Honda R/R; they are much larger and dissipate heat better.
When you go to hook it up into your bike it's important to rewire the system: the stator should feed directly into the R/R, and bypass the factory wiring. The R/R ground can be split and feed both the frame and over to the battery. The R/R positive output can either go to the fuse box, or to the battery direct, with an inline fuse added.
All these details have been covered hundreds of times in different threads here. The search feature is your best friend.Ed

The 425 has one unit like the 750. We happen to have an '82 parts bike and just wanted to see if we could swap the rectifiers and finish out the current riding season on the 425. When winter hits, we plan on doing several things to the 425. The current positive wire does go right to the battery with a fuse inline. So you think this swap will work for the rest of summer?sigpic

Make sure the R/R has a good ground, and make sure the stator wires directly into it. The factory R/R wiring is BAD, and should be bypassed to avoid damage to the harness.Ed
