my 81 gs 750 i have starting issues

    the short of it
it was running then it just died
    it wouldnt refire so
i took the tank off and checked the wires everything seems fine
i checked continuity on the starter button and kill button both tested ok
the clutch saftey switch was bypassed by previous ownernow i casnt get the start button to engage the starter
so i ran a remote switch to see if i could get it to fire
i get the starter to turn the engine over but it will not fire what can i do next ?
im not a motorcycle mech or a eletrical guru
but i am a fairly decent mechanic
im am stummped and dont know about this ignition system but hopefully with your help ill be rideing again before summers over
    thanks

Since you can get starter to turn by jumping it, your battery is probably OK. When you turn on ignition do any lights come on? In any event, the main fuse powers the ignition switch which then powers the ignition fuse, etc. Check fuses, might be hard to tell, so just replace them , one by one- they can look good, but be no good!
