Thankfully, I've run into no charging problems with my bike. The only times that I have had to charge my battery have been after using the starter a lot to diagnose other problems. Otherwise, she seems to keep a decent charge under normal operation.
Because I want to replace and rebuild my crappy wire harness and relocate the electrics to use a smaller battery, I will double check my charging system. My R/R looks to be the original (small, still has the multi-colored "yellow" wires, etc.). Of course, the Stator Papers regimen will reveal the truth.
What should I do if the charging system really is good?
Sorry if that is a dumb question, but it seems that the old "ain't broke = don't fix it" might not apply to these charging systems. Essentially, the design of these systems IS broken, so even if I don't have to replace a stator or R/R now, is there anything else I should do to a charging system that functions in spite of its bad design? I will be moving the R/R and replacing wires and connections already, should I look into just replacing the R/R while I am at it? Are there other changes I should make to the existing parts (e.g., rerouting the ground wires to the battery negative)?
TIA
