Starting engine on bike with halogen headlight

When H4 halogen headlights first became available, riders were advised to start their bikes with the headlight turned off, so as to avoid damage to something (the bulb?). Is this still recommended, say for a '78 GS550 running a modern H4 headlight? I'm running a stock stator with an Electrosport R/R.

It won't hurt as long as you have a good charge on the battery. Most bikes don't even have the option of turning the headlight off.

By 1980, they came with an H4 and no headlight switch. I wouldn't worry about it.

Most all the big GS bikes had H4 from stock starting in 1980, and none of those bikes have a head lamp switch.

Edit: combat posted while I was typing.
