Confused about interchangabilty of stator
Ok, i need a stator for an 81 gs1100e, been told parts from 77?-79 wont work here in forums, and they are different. Was looking on ebay for one and found a "good" deal on an 84 gs1100 part, went to look for part numbers on bike bandit and they are also diff for the 81vs84. So back to looking for stators and saw a Ricks stator and remembered he was "from" here, so i went to his sight n checked em out, and they all have the same part number! Am i missing something? Or does Ricks make a stator designed better than stock and it is usable w/ all these bikes?Tags: None

Let Ricks be your guide. Many GS stators interchange, although the plugs and wire length may be different.Ed

If I remember correctly, for the 1100 series engines, 1981 was the only year that the engine had smaller diameter crankshaft ends. I would expect that only a stator specifically intended for a 1981 1100 would fit that year model.

Think i got it now, 80-83 gs1100e is an odd bird stator wise.
Ok seems only 80-83 gs1100 stators are compatible, talked to a ricks rep this mornin and thats the info i got. Does anyone know if there is a distinct advantage to buying a ricks' (other than helping a fellow forum member) stator? Seems the price range for a used stock is only marginally cheaper ($90-100 w/ s&h), im almost thinkin a new one from ricks would be the best bet if there is any reason they are better than stock (i.e. reliabilty).

Hi,
As far as I know, Rick's Electrics has no association with this forum or the GSR website.
I've tried the RM Stator, Electrosport, and Rick's stator. Because of the quailty and contruction of the part, Rick's is my personal favorite. I have noticed lately that a few members have bought stators from an Ebay seller that look very similar to the Rick's part but cost about $40 less. They have been given favorable reviews.
But if I ever have to buy another stator, it will be a Rick's part.

For something like a Stator, I would go with the best you can find. Also, you might want to check/replace the rectifier at the same time.
Many horror stories about dead stator kills the R/R, then the bad R/R kills the new Stator, then the bad Stator kills the new R/R... the loops continue. Replace both with new parts at the same time and the problems go away.

i was wrong
i thought it was ricks that was formed due to the demand of these parts, it was the founder of electrex, ritzo i was thinking of, not sure why. Rick... Ritzo, either way insert foot here lol.
