I have a Vetter fairing with the horn kit. I replaced the relay because the horns would not sound. The horn is wired directly to the positive post on the battery. It does not work through the ignition, it is live all the time. This is how the PO did it, not my fault. The horns work great when the battery is fully charged or when the bike is running. If the bike is off, and there is not a charge going to the battery or the lights are on, the relay will click, but the horns will not work. I tried to match the relay as closely as possible to the one I took out but who knows?Tags: None

It's possible that you did not wire the relay correctly.
Yes, the horn can be connected to a constant hot. In the stock bike, it's switched, but that won't matter here.
Do your horns have one terminal or two? It makes a difference how you wire it.
If you have the standard-configuration relay, it will have terminals numbered 30, 85, 86 and 87.
#85 or #86 will connect to your standard horn wiring (this is switched power).
The other terminal will go to the horn button, which will complete the circuit to ground.
When these are connected, you will be able to hear the relay click when the ignition key is ON and you push the horn button.
It is because your trigger circuit is key-controlled that it does not matter if your horn is connected to an always-hot wire.
If your horns have two terminals, and you leave them connected to a constant power source (the battery), connect the relay teminal #30 to the other horn terminal, then connect #87 to a ground point.
You can also reverse that by connecting the relay between the battery and the horns, and connecting the second horn terminal to a ground.
This is also how you would wire it if you have horns with a single terminal. Having only one terminal (hot), they are grounded through their mounts.

Substitute "Switch" for your "Horn Button".

It's a new battery so I don't think it is that. I knew someone would suggest incorrect connections!! The best way I can describe the routine to get the relay out is if you have a well-trained rat! I do not, so I guess I will have to be the rat. If I just had another hand and they were smaller!! Also, my relay only has three posts. That is what the original had.
