Will this rr work for me?
Anyone happen to know if a R/R off a 99 Kawasaki ninja 500 will work on an 82 GS850? Local guy has one for sale. I can't find the specs anywhere for the rr from the kz. Thanks!

I found another, non-OEM R/R for the 1999 500 Ninja that lists compatibility with the following Shindengan models:
SH530-12C
SH532-12
I had a look through the lists and I didn't see either of those associated with the GS850, so it doesn't look promising.'83 GS650G
'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

For my purposes it doesn't matter if the mounting holes don't match up as long as it can function properly for my bike.

Ask him for a part number. It will either be printed on the device or it will be on a glue-on sticker. Also ask him for the number of wires and the color of each.

Shindengen made special size R/R's for Kawasaki (slighty smaller than Honda), I got one and I think it will work fine.1981 gs650L

The 530 will work. It is listed as a Yamaha Seca 750 model in the list.
Also, my GPz uses a SH548-12, which is listed for a Suzuki model in Matchless' list. And my spare GS-compatible R/R worked fine on the GPz while I was searching for a replacement R/R. I would have kept it on but the mounting on the GPz is unique and the GS unit did not fit correctly.
The 532 is also listed as compatible.

You can also look up the stator of the donor bike. If it's a three-phase stator that pretty much looks like a GS stator (as is the case with the EX500), the R/R should work fine.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
