    81 gs 750 timing issuse

im haveing trouble with my timing, the breaker plate on the bike wasnt able to slide over far enough to line up timing marks, so i slotted the holes a bit and now it lines up perfect, but my question is, not sure of the part name but at the end of the cranckshaft there is a tab that rotates around, now is that supposed to line up perfectly with the 2 senors at each end, sorry about description.any help would be great thanks

First (since I'm sorta surprised that timing was off enough for you to need to slot holes) what are you shooting for timing wise? maybe 10 BTDC at 1200 rpm and 35 to 40 degrees BTDC at 4000rpm? Anyways, that little tab on crank spins by the two signal coils and triggers(or interrupts) a weak pulse to ignitor which then fires ignition coils. The tab's position is changed about 30 degrees thanks to the force on those little spinning weights- make sure the weights aren't froze up.

my timing is at 15 degrees, under 1200rpm for cylinder 1 and 4, the 35 degrees, over 2000 rpm for cylinder 2 and 3

Are you checking it with a timing light ? Has the advance mech ever been changed ? Otherwise what you are doing is not accurate...

iam using a timing light, the mech hasnt been changed ,but i put in new piston rings so i had the cams out.thats way my timing was out a bit,as far as the degree amounts im going off what my manual says

Nothing you do with pistons and camshafts will disturb the timing relationship between the signal coils and crankshaft. That "T" mark is TDC of cylinders 1 and 4- hopefully you used that to position camshafts in their correct positions. I haven't pull my signal coil plate off yet, but I imagine there are other marks for timing light to find.
