Or take a peak. Remove the RH side cover at the front on the engine (end of the crankshaft). If you have points under there you have points. If you haven't got points under there you haven't.79 GS1000S

One of mine has two sets of points, actually two points, does one point cound as a set? If so I have two. And they're new too!
The other one has the "ignitor" No points in that rascal.sigpic

All right, enough of giving Andy a hard time. Post count = 1.
Pre-80 model year 550s came with points (which may have been replaced with a 3rd-party electronic ignition system). 80-82 came with factory EI with mechanical advance (which may also have been replaced with 3rd-party EI like Dyna S; because it's much cheaper than a new ignitor if they go bad). 83-86 had EI with electronic advance.
But their point is valid; put your bike in your sig and we won't have to wonder what you're talking about
