    Self-destructing stator-headlight switch circuit

Another reason to disable that circuit:

When I bought my '78 550, the charging system wasn't working, and tests revealed a failed R/R, which I replaced. The stator checked out fine. At the time, I also disabled the infamous stator circuit to the left handlebar switch.

Recently (a year later), when I removed the handlebar switch for cleaning, I found that the solder joint on the White/Green stator wire had failed and that the wire was no longer connected to the switch, and that the wiring harness connector under the tank had overheated. (I wonder which failure happened first?)

I removed the offending W/R and W/G wires entirely. (but mayble I could have found another use for that circuit)

The whole thing reminded me of how goofy that charging circuit was.

The bike runs and charges fine, now.
Working...
