    turn signals relays

So I have an 81 GS 650 im turning into a cafe racer. Im having a problem with my turn signals. they just burn no flashing so naturally I think turn signal relay. Bought a used on on ebay installed it and same problem they just burn. When I smack the both relays and on both the light goes off for a second and they sound like they are trying to connect and disconnect but after that quick flash they are back on and burning solid. It still sounds like a relay problem to me its just puzzling to me that its doing it with both relays. help?

Are ya using LED lights for signals?
If so, the bulbs are not pulling enough power for the flasher to work.

I'd guess that the used flasher you purchased ain't no good.
Check the wiring for good connections and grounds.

but your pulling enough power question made me wonder. these are after market signals and im not using the front ones. so I installed some up front and now the relay hesitates before kicking on but once it comes on it stays on. that help?

            Hi,

The stock flasher wants to "see" at least a couple of 23w bulbs before it starts flashing. It sounds like your new turn signals do not provide enough load for the thermal relay to flash. You can install an off-the-shelf electronic relay from the auto store and the total load of the bulbs (incandescent or LED) won't matter. You may even be able to use a really cheap 2-prong can flasher in the stock socket. See the turn signal relay replacement guide on my little website along with the extra tips in the electrical section.

            Thank you for your indulgence,

            BassCliff

I had the same issue. A tridon HD12 flasher is a direct fit to the stock harness plug and will fix your problem right up I got mine at Canadian Tire for about $12.00.
