    Can coils be fixed?

I have 2 sets of OEM coils for my '77 GS750. I recently discovered that I was getting an irratic spark over about 5000 RPM. So I installed my other coils and the problem went away.

I like the idea of having a spare set of coils so I am wondering if the bad coils could be fixed. Here is what they do: I put the timing light on the sparkplug leads and observed the timing light; above 5000 RPM the spark is irratic. Below that engine speed the spark is regular. Could this be bad leads or end caps? How do you change leads?

    Thanks

    Hi,

As far as I know the ignition coils are a sealed unit and cannot be repaired. The plug wires can be replaced with a little effort. Dig out the old epoxy, pull the wires, then epoxy new wires in place.

The spark plug caps can also be replaced very easily: Spark Plug Cap Replacement

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Thanks BassCliff, I think I will replace the leads on 1 of the coils and see how that works.
