Battery box,78 1000
I didn't take the battery box out of my 781000 project bike and I have no idea how it fits back in the frame.Manual has no clear picture of this that I could find.Describe if you like but a picture would be real nice.
Thanks in advanceTags: None

Although I can take several pic's for you tomorrow, it is pretty much idiot proof.
There are two bolt holes on the cross bar behind the engine and only one side of the battery box has two bolt holes.(Ears)
Or is it the other way around? Either way, idiot proof.

Do you have the gromets and bushings?? Just slip the main basket down in according to the holes..will only go one way. Then the side plate goes on and youll see that there are hard points in the frame for the bolts.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Well then, I hope that you were not trying to imply that something was wrong with SV by your comment about the sign.

No Greg is busy taking pics VVV
I think you can see this one was not going.
Much better
While I have you, have to take the back bit of the air cleaner off to get to the battery?.Not a problem just wondering because that the way it looks to me.

Yes thats correct..the upper rear portion has to removed to access the battery..add any connectors for a batterry tender and run them out just in frt of the side cover. Much easier than removing the box to use the clamps. You have the thick rubber pad for the bottom of the box???MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I wouldnt use weather stripping...The foam will shred as the battery vibrates around on it. Next best thing would be some 3/16 neoprene or similar rubber..like from an old truck mudflap. Put some contact cement on the bottom of the box and the rubber and let it tack up good. Then lay the rubber in the bottom.
EDIT...And note that the original pad had 2 rubber nipples that went thru those two holes at either end to hold it in place in the box..if they are gone you should use the cement on them as well.Last edited by chuck hahn; 03-04-2012, 12:33 AM.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
