hi guys i a 1980 gs1000e,,, able to run with irridium plugs /similar rating as my current plugs .. ? regards oldgrumpy

Are you asking if you can run Iridium plugs? Most folks around here agree that it's not worth the cost to run anything but stock.

They are good if you have a tired engine and are fouling plugs.

Nothing wrong with them. Just expensive. They will outlast several regular plugs though so that helps with the cost.

Unless you've got HC pistons in it, you are indeed wasting money. Or perhaps your pistons are carboned up bad enough to raise compression or something.
Honestly every bike I've owned runs worse on high test. They're built and designed for 87-89 octane. Even my Rex with higher compression than a GS, timing advancer plate etc runs on 87 as happy as a lark....

I use to run the Split fires, cant get them any longer, so I use the NGK plugs now. I did buy a spark plug cleaner and cleaned all my split fires they look pretty good. Oh I would change plugs every 2-3 years just for the heck of it. Thing is finding any type of High performance plug for a 32 year old bike is getting difficult.

New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.
