Do i have the right harness for my bike???

    Hey Fellas-

So, last fall I had a nice little chunk of money I decided to use buying parts for my bike, a wiring harness being one of them. I never looked at it until now when I decided to re-do the bullet connectors and label everything. I found a couple of connectors that are not adding up to what I have on my other harness, and now I'm wondering if I am in for a headache.

The biggest worry I have is the following connector for which I assume is supposed to go to one of the engine connections. Picture is below.

Now, in the same exact spot on the old harness, here are the connectors:

My question is obviously, is this the same harness, or is the very first connector factory, and the above three pics are jerry rigged? I also noticed a few different connectors in the headlight bucket that do not match this harness as well. What should I do? And, FYI, the white loom shell is something I put on there temporary to keep the wires together just in-case I have to do a coil relay mod when I get it back on the bike.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Up load your photos at Photobucket, then link the [img] code here and the photos will show up in high resolution, as many as 10 per post.

That first harness plug looks like the type off an early model hand control.

The thing is, it's in the same exact spot as my harness plug for the engine connector, so . . .

Here is better pics of the connectors: The white connector is in the same exact place on the harness as the two connectors a few pics over. The wires do not match up. There are more wires in the two connectors than there are in the single connector.

Can anyone identify what harness this bike goes to if it"s not the same connector? Also, the headlight connector is not the h4 connector, it's a three prong molex connector looking like it connects into something else. Very factory looking. Same color wires for the headlight, so, i know it's the headlight connector, just not a straight h4 connector.

So, I've gone on ebay to examine other "L" model looms, and found that my original harness I had on the bike is the correct one, which means that the harness I just spent all the time yesterday redoing is not the right one. Curious to know what bike it belongs to.

I've decided to save myself some headache, and I'm going to redo the connectors on the old harness instead of trying to match the connectors up.

Many of the GS harnesses look similar, so it's very difficult to judge by looking at a couple of connectors.

That blue plug look like the ones for the later style LH hand control. As mentioned already, the flat connector looks like an early type LH hand control - such as off a GS1000. The melted plug is the one for the stupid out and back stator wire loop - which I strongly advise you to eliminate.

I converted a 1000GL harness to work on my first 1000S by cutting and splicing the proper connectors into the system. It's pretty simple work with the harness on the work bench.
