    78 GS750E Electrical Issues & ?'s

    I was having intermittent gear indicator issues so
    I found the loose gear indicator coupling, tested & cleaned the pins and all is well with that.
    The Gear Indicator is a LED not a bulb. (My local dealer swore to me it was a bulb)
    I looked over the wiring and found this mess inside the rubber weather protector boot.
    I peeled a bit of plastic off the white/green wire, it did not burn off as pictured.




    The bike still runs, all lights work.

    My questions are;
    What is the likely culprit of this condition?
    Is this something to be alarmed about or is it somewhat common?
    Could this have just been the result of running high RPMs a long time
    (like 34 years) ?
    Should I replace the connections and proceed to the stator papers and do the recommended tests? Or get a new R/R unit first?

    If someone can inform me of a replacement R/R unit they're using successfully and the best place to purchase it, I would be greatly appreciative.
    (I'm having search overload right now.) TMI

    I have regulator and rectifier replacements (stock), can I use these stock replacements with new spade connectors or should I just upgrade to a more reliable unit?



    On my 1978 GS750E (12K Miles)
    There is only 1 main 15A fuse and it has not blown.
    The Regulator and Rectifier are separate units.
    Suzuki GS750 Stanley DE3802 15V Rectifier only (Pictured L)
    Suzuki GS750/1000 NipponDenso 137600-0011 12V Regulator only (R - Mounted under Batt Box)
    Will the older Stanley 15V work on my bike?
    A newer unit replaces both. Correct?
    If everything is working fine and I have replacements, I would like to save the $130. the MOSFET FH020AA costs until I really need it.
    The battery is new as of last summer and measures 12.60 after a year in service.

    Hi,

    I would suggest replacing the separate regulator and rectifier unit with an integrated r/r unit from the list on my little website. Replace all the connectors and make sure all the grounds are clean. Connect the three output wires form the stator directly to the input wires of the r/r unit. Connect the ground wire from the r/r directly to the negative battery terminal. Instead of using the stock wiring harness connection, you can also connect the output of the r/r directly to the positive terminal of the battery through an inline fuse assembly (15 amp).

      You don't need no stinking $130 mosfet R/R- how about a nice vintage shindengen waiting for work? $20 delivered

        I've got a photograph just like that! LOL

        Replace the R/R as suggested. Follow the BassCliff instructions (really very important).
        Clean up all the connectors and if you really want to put the effort in replace them with spade connectors. Then go riding!
