Someone hand me the dumb mantle - Headlight wiring

As I can't do much else right now until I get starter parts, I decided to look over the bike wiring to make sure I didn't miss anything. I found the fuse marked for my brake lights was melted on one side (wasn't like that before my starter problems), a wire decided to come out of its terminal in my gauge section of the harness (think this is due to how my carbs are attached to the bike right now), and this:



Seems that the last time I put the headlight back into the bucket after connecting my front brake lights, these wires must have touched and rubbed on those wire holders inside the bucket. So the ground wire insulation for the headlight is about worn through and two of the three are flatter than pancakes.

The right way to fix this in my mind is to remove the wires from the connector and reterminate. However, I don't see how they come out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Without removing the entire harness again from the bike I think I found everything wrong. I just hope I don't find any other signs of how stupid I am for awhile.

Might be easier to go to Auto Zone, look in the "HELP" section and get a new socket.

It will come with a few inches of wire, just make new connections.

The above is what I would have suggested. Solder it in and use heat shrink to make the repair look good
