    wont crank

i just had to change my exhaust valves and after i put everything back together the bike wont start. as far as i know everything is correct, according to a clymer manual. i've been trying to crank it and it sound like it is trying to start but it just isnt. ive also tried putting a little fuel in the cylinder hoping to get it to crank but i got nothing. the carb bowls have fuel in them also. if anyone has any tips or tricks on these old girls then please let me know!!!!

    thanks for any help,
    roux

So, you have the cams/ignition timed and valves adjusted correctly?

You are correct, "it should be", but did you actually go in an check your valve clearances after changing the valves?

New valves won't necessarily be the same exact length as the old ones, so will require different shims. If the valves are longer, the valve might not be closing, causing a severle lack of compression.

I've checked all of that and it should all be good.
