    shocking electrical questions

    Hi All,

Working on getting a 1978 GS750 back healthy after a break. I've done all the carb work, and have been focusing on ignition issues now. I was getting very weak spark, and just did the coil relay mod - much hotter spark.

I have a Dyna S and the green coils.

The bike is getting close - I'm still trying to find the source of the intermittent ignition issues -it's like a switch goes off and on and I lose cylinders.

I'm using the non-suppressor dyna spark plug wires with NGK 5k caps. I get some really good shocks when I touch the caps. Is this normal??

I tried cleaning the kill switch, but this seems difficult. Does the kill switch just connect the 2 orange wires? I might try to bypass it but this seems unrelated.

I'm going to go thru the Dyna troubleshooting steps this weekend, but it really feels like a loose connection. However, the connections from the relay look good, and I double-checked the connections between the coil and the Dyna. These are all old connectors, but I tried to get them as clean as I could.

Thanks so much for all the valuable information. Lots of good reading!
