GS 1100 Mitsuba Starter rebuild/replacement
The starter in my '82 GS1100GL died due to oil seal failure. The Suzuki dealer says rebuild parts are available, but not the required shaft seal. Suzuki replacement is over $500 and requires additional $30 cover plate. "Ricks Motorsport Electrics" has a replacement for $185, but description does not specify my model and says "Mitsuba starters may require cover plate or return for rebuild"; so, I'm concerned I may get the wrong part wasting time and return shipping (if returnable). Can anyone offer assistance? The dealer says the seal dimensions are 25mm OD x 15mm ID x 6mm thick with steel OD ring and two ribs or ridges on the ID. The dealer rebuild, (if possible), will be a comparable cost to the aforementioned replacement so if I could verify this replacement would work I'll go that route and replace the cover if necessary.Tags: None

82 GS1100 info
Thanks for the link. They even have complete rebuild kits. I also found a site for oil seals that may help those in need; Harwal oil seals @ harwal.com .
Lots of info on materials and different configurations. I'll probably use Stockers for a rebuild kit or one already rebuilt to minimize brain strain. Thanks again
