Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

It's better now. With some adjusting it cranks and starts with the stand up only.
The way it was, it was definitely dangerous, at least annoying.
I'm debating whether to figure out how to make it factory. Which the guys here tell me, is that the stand only controls the warning light on the speedo.

FWIW, I think it is dangerous to require kick stand down to restart.
See the attached design.

I appreciate your guys responses.
At this time the bike is balanced on the center stand and wood blocks. Got the side stand jammed up. Gonna take a few days.
I'm working on tires, bearings. brakes, etc.
A bunch of stuff that I would blow off if I was the only rider.
To those that have followed this thread, thank you. Even though I think that everything is safe. I'm still going to try and figure out what the deal is with the sidestand switch.
Please, if you haven't, or don't want to read the whole thread. Don't reply. I'm old and it hurts my brain trying to figure some responses out. It's not you, it's me.

I think we have different issues. The bike I'm working on cranks and starts with the side stand up. It used to only work with the side stand down (actually it wasn't completely down, it was almost down). I adjusted the side stand switch. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on.
The guys here tell me that the side stand does nothing but turn the warning light on and off, from the factory. I've studied every wiring diagram from any bike that looked close to mine, and I have to agree. I've also studied the wiring on the bike. So far all I can say is, it's pristine. Except for my butchery.
I have examined every connector, every wire. Except the wires that are hidden by factory appearing black tape. I won't disturb that.
Anyways Randy52,
There's a lot more knowledgeable dudes here than I.
I will help you as much as I can.

The side stand light will be on whenever the key is on the and engine is off or not producing oil pressure.
Please note side stand position is not part of the above equation. Simplified logic is when the oil light is ON the side stand light WILL be ON.Last edited by Guest; 08-09-2012, 05:48 PM.
