    82 gs1100e - need firing order

i cant seem to find this anywhere for some reason.. .. i was riding tonight and cylinders started cutting out. i know my charging system is working so i thought coils might be getting hot or starting to short.. so i inspected the wires with the lights off while it was running and when i pulled cyl 4 boot off the plug which is the cyinder that cuts out first i seen spark arcing off that coil wire to the coil housing itself. the wires to cyinder 3 aand 4 dont look right.. the longest wire should go to the furthest plug which is 4 but it doesnt..

i need to find what wire off each coil goes to what cyinder..
the coils on this bike says dyna on it so theyve been changed.

    thanks in advance!

FO is 1-2-4-3. 1&4 off of one coil (on mine it's the right one) and 2&3 off of the other. You can switch plug wires around from the same coil (put 1 on 4 or 4 on 1 etc) and it doesn't matter cause the coil fires both plugs at the same time but only one happens to be at the top of the compression stroke when it does.

However I don't think that is the problem. Your observation of the coil itself arcing is where I would think your problem lies. Got a cracked coil case or some kind of other intermittent short going on there.

Yes your'e right.. I ended up figuring out the firing order.. I switched 1 and 4 around on the coil and the rear outlet still arced a bit, it seemed like it was arcing against a wiring harness bracket/clamp that holds the harness up by the frame.. i bent the bracket away from the coil outlet and didn't see anymore arcing.. the housing of the coil didn't looked cracked.. I had a close look and didn't notice any cracks...

I removed all 4 spark plug wires and cleaned all 4 outlets and wires with alcohol pads.. I even rechecked all the connections to both coils.. Tomorrow I'll try installed rubber boots on the coils wires where they go into each coil.. sometimes boots can help with arcing. the housing of the coil didn't looked cracked.. I had a close look and didn't notice any cracks..

Remove the plug caps, snip a short (1/4") piece of wire off to get to clean wire, then spin the caps back on.

Or, replace the plug caps with some NGK ones.
