Confused about Ignitor Replacement

I've been reading around in the Forum and got myself all confused...basically I've got two questions:
1) Will the dyna ds3-2 work on my 81 GS650G, or is there another recommended unit?
2) Do you completely disconnect the old igniter when you install the dynatek unit, or do you still need the igniter in the circuit?

2) You don't need the ignitor or signal generators.

1) I think it will fit but the pressure blocks the ignition plate so you have to cut out a notch in it to clear.
