vetter stereo and extra wires in headlight bucket
I'm in the process of installing a vetter sound system on my 1980 gs850. When I got in the headlight bucket I had three wire that had open connectors, and I'm wondering what they go to, or what they can be used for. I assume the brown one is an auxillary power source because when I booked the power wire from the stereo to it, the stereo lite up. The other two wires are black and red and blue and red. They have open connectors and I'm wondering what wires go into them from the fairing. Thanks.

1980 850G.
I can help you there, have schematic.
And I had an 80 850G for years, that came with a Windjammer fairing.
First, let me say that I assume you are talking about wires from the bikes wiring, not wires from the fairing.
Brown is Tail Light circuit. You might ask why that has a connector in headlight shell. I kinda wondered my self. Maybe its for other models that have running lights in the turn signals.
Black/Red ........... not finding Black with Red stripe.
and
Blue/Red ............
I suspect that is actaully Red/Black and Blue/Red which both are single wires with a single connector, and both for the "distance sensor" in the spedometer and goes to the turnsignal controller for the auto cancel function. So not much that you can do with those.
With your radio connected to that brown circuit, then you have the situation were any problem with the radio and it blows the fuse, well then you have lost the tail light and other signal related stuff.
Notice on bottom of the fuse block is a couple terminals, positive and negitive. That is powered by the bottom fuse, and is meant for added accessorys such as your radio.

From Cliff site:
This would be from something like an early Clymers manaul. Is Color.
Although, trying to find the red/blk (or blk/red) was one case where having a black and white schematic was more usefull where the colors are spelled out.
Later Clymers manauls and Suzuki factory manauls had black and white schematics. Early Clymers has color.

I agree with Redmans diagnosis of the wires, but would like to add one comment.
The ACC terminals in the fuse box are there for just that reason, but they are ON all the time, so you will have to turn your radio off manually or come back to a dead battery.

Thanks. Pardon my inexperience with electircal issues, but are you saying I will need to run a wire from the open bottom/open fuse in the fuse box to the fairing? Then that fuse/wire will be used to power the radio. That makes sense to me. I was nieve in thinking that there would already be an auxillary wire waiting for the radio to be installed. Makes sense that the radio would be on a completely seperate fuse than anything else.
Thanks.
