1981 GS 1100, will it run with no guages?

Hello everyone, I picked up a 1981 GS11 mostly for the motor. Before I complete the part out I would like to run the motor to do a warm compression test. Unfortunately, the bike has no guages so it will not start. I jumped across the solenoid and it cranks fine and the PO swore it ran great with 40k on the clock. Is there any way to bypass the guage assembly to get spark to this thing so I can hear it run? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

is the ignition switch missing as well. it should run without the guages (i think) but if the ignition switch is missing you will need to bridge out those wires, and the kill switch wires and maybe the clutch safety switch if it has one.

Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

If the switch is still there, then diconnect it and cross any red with any orange and you're good to go.

Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

The switch still works but without the gauges the start button does nothing.

Missing gauges to me indicates that there are probably other things gone as well. I would scout ebay. my .02
