You can run on the battery no problem. With a fully charged battery you should be able to get though a good portion of a full tank of gas.

The less power you use the longer it will last if you're going to run it total loss.
Obviously it's safer with full lighting though..

I had an aftermarket stator on one bike that put out 60v AC on all three legs & it worked fine.... (1000G).
Plus you are at 4k rpm not 5k rpm so it will be a bit lower (the 5k rpm figure is usually about 70-75v).
I put about 15k miles on it with that stator & who knows when it was changed out...
I would be more worried if one leg was a lot different to the other two.1980 GS1000G - Sold

Ricks stators are excellent, unfortunately, Ricks or any of the other after market R/Rs are not much better than the stock Suzuki R/Rs and can easily fail quickly and damage their associated stators. You have to match your new after market stator with a known good type of R/R. There is tons of information on this site about that subject. Do not use the Ricks R/R even if they replace it.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

unlike a large amount of CB honda's.
crash damaged and the magnet(s) becoming loose is a different story.
