horn mount

my horns have been working intermittently since I 1st started messing around with this? Do the horns seem to be in the right location?

I am guessing that the horn is the roundish looking thing located under the front of gas tank?

If so yes the location looks good.

Mine is on the left and I only have the one but there is a mounting position on both sides.

On basecliffs website there is a link on a horn mod using a relay. (pretty sure I read it there)

Might fix your problem may not.

Do you have a set of jumpers? (small alligator clips with wire between)

The horn should sound when hooked up to battery. (Unhook from harness first)

I don't know how to easily diagnose switch, can be taken apart and cleaned but can be difficult to reassemble.

Would imagine with enough wire you can mount the horn anywhere you want.

Thinking of buying the loudest horn I can find as i enjoy the shocked looks on peoples faces when they realize they just pulled out in front of me.

Impossible to tell from that shot if horns even exist on that bike.
However, all they need is a physical mounting place.

It is fun, the WOLO Bad Boy was a blast. For a while. When you wake them up they go every which way, much like a startled deer. I got tired of dodging them.

Sometimes the horns cake up with dust and dirt. You can take off the dome and clean them, followed by adjusting the tone with the screw and locknut. At their best though they are weak compared to that WOLO Bad Boy!

Correct spot for the 79 850. Try cleaning the contacts and such, also I believe there's a horn relay mod on BassCliffs site. Really the best money you can spend is on new horns. For each bike I ride regular I purchase two new horns from Canadian Tire for $40. 130 Db, compared to the stock 105, each and they look very close to the stock one just a bit thicker but they mount in the exact same spot, very loud and very era specific. Your bike looks great by the way.

Right above the engine therem should be a hole in the bottom of the frame tube and a "kinda" U shaped bracket that bolts up to the frame. The horns are mounted on two pieces of strap steel that bolt tom that plate. I concurr withn them being full of road dust. clean them and lots of compressed air. tap them with the bolt facing up so things down in there will fall out the fronts.

I'd like to try this horn. Which model do you use ? And did you use a relay ? Wolo on their site say plug and play, but I've heard others recommend a relay.

If those horns will mount where the stock ones go and you need a bracket, I think I have a homemade "stock replica" one that you can have. Not perfect but noone really sees the mount anyway. I was doing some sorting and pitching a while back but if I have it you can have it.

yea I had that u-shaped mount backwards causing horn to not work..not really sure why but I switch the u-mount around facing forward and they are working good..

If they were pinched against the frame they probably couldnt vibrate well.
