    tested my R\R last night

So i went through the stator papers chart and got down to the R\R section. when i connected the red lead to the red wire from the r/r i got OL from all three yellow leads, when i did it in reverse order the black the the red lead and the red to the yellow leads i got -readings i can't remember exactly what it was somewhere in the .6 to .8 range of each. i assume since i got OL reading the first way that mine is shot. is this correct thinking. My stator showed up good doing the test on the stator.

    NOt correct thinking.
You will get ol the one way and then should get a reading the other way.
First test the red to red, with black on the yellows
then test red to black with red on the yellows...THEN

test black to black with red on the yellows, and
then black to red with black on the yellows.

    Its 4 seperate tests.
Two will show ol for all six legs , and
the other two will show a reading for all six legs.

I dont remember which way shows ol and which way shows a reading but it will be obvious when you start the test.

There is a well explained post on this but I could not find it.

This is what I was trying to say. This is from a post by steve:

Basically the same readings, but your leads will be on different wires.

Meter red lead on R/R red lead: each of the three yellow wires should read zero.
Meter black lead on R/R red lead: each of the three yellow wires should have a reading.
Meter black lead on R/R black lead: each of the three yellow wires should read zero.
Meter red lead on R/R black lead: each of the three yellow wires should have a reading.

All six of those readings will be pretty close to the same number and should be the same polarity.

      Here is the full thread.

"OL" on your meter likely means very high resistance which is what you want in one direction. Don't forget to test the R/R ground wire versus the three stator leads in the same manner.

Loud et said it's 4 separate tests, it's actually TWELVE readings you are going to take.

Just do them like I said earlier, you will be fine.

What you posted in your original post detailed the first two lines of the test perfectly.

Now do the same tests with the black lead of the R/R and you will be set.

Keep in mind, though, that you are only testing the R/ and not the /R.
That is, you are testng the Rectifier/, and not the /Regulator.
To test the /Regulator, you need to have things connected and the engine running.
