    1983 Suzuki GS300L ignition change

Hey guys, its been a while. My account got deleted so i made another. I dont think anyone remembers my project (or maybe even me) but i have a 1983 Suzuki GS300L The motor was all rebuilt and put back together but i ran into an ignition problem. The igniter is no good and good luck finding another one cheap enough to be worth buying. So i have decided to upgrade (in this case) to points and condenser ignition. Heres the part i have made so far. Its a points assy. from a 1978 KZ750 Twin. I also have the coil.

The idea is to run a chain from the end of the crank up to a frame mounted points assy. like in this picture. (dont hate on my awesome drawing skills with microsoft paint )

I think ill use some standard steel rod with a hole lathed through the middle for the bolt to run through and mount to the crank. Then a sprocket will mount to that and the chain will run up to the drive shaft on the frame mounted points assy. Heres another pic of the mount i made.

            Mate that's an ambitious project!

I'd be going down a different path myself. Going by your comment on $$$ I think a Dynatek is out of the question, but HJacobmiller (Jake) has retrofitted the advance mechanism from a 450 (I think) into his 300 and then used a Dynatek DS3-3C in it.

You could go the same path and put the points setup in from a GS400 or 425, not sure what the 250's ran but that might work as well.

            Good luck!

There are a few threads about igniter repair if you search.

I have checked those out. I actually de-potted mine to see what was in there... well it wasnt a few capacitors like i thought.. its a big crazy square of insanity. every little electrical component you could ever dream of is in there and i dont even know where to start as far as fixing mine. I dont even know what to look for as far as damaged. None of the caps looked popped or anything so im not sure.
