my 82 GS1100e start switch acts up alot and i have to play with it to start , any suggestions or has this happened to anyone here , it eventually starts but i dont want it to completely give out when im out for a ride , brian

take the assembly apart to start and give it all a good clean inside,probably find a few spiders in there! clean all the contacts well on the starter button and the kill switch.
make sure the spring behind the starter button is in good shape and not broken or corroded1978 GS1085.
Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion! -
Also
Check the clutch interlock also if it has not been bypassed.Comment

To bypass the clutch switch, just follow them down into the headlight bucket and unplug the switch. Then plug the 2 ends from the wiring harness into each other and remove the switch from under the clutch perch.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Or ignition swtich?
WHile playing with it, maybe you are also playing with the clutch lever switch and it is the clutch lever swiitch that is what is causing the problem.
