Turn Signal Wiring Help
Howdy All. I bought a new set of 4 turn signals that have 3 wires: red, black with white and black. I can't figure out how to hook them up. I've tried all the combinations and they don't want to work. The stock signals worked fine, so I know its not a power issue. There are only 4 connectors for the turn signals in the headlight bucket: 2 grey, 1 black and 1 black with white. Does anybody have any idea where these new turn signal wires go? Thanks.Tags: None

The black wire with your new signals is an extra, just leave it. Follow your wiring diagram but basically the B/W goes to your B/W and the other goes to the power wire for that side signal.Rob

Hi,
Are they also the same value, 12v 23w/8w Stanley #1034 (or generic 1057-ish) as the stock bulbs?
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

Make sure they are grounded
The B is hot
B/W is ground
The R is running lights (hook into a switched hot wire)1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Most turn signal stalks are mounted in rubber bushing and aren't grounded (some, not all) so you may need to use that extra ground wire to ground them. Get yourself a circuit tester ( one of those jobbies that has the light) and start testing and isolate the R/L turn signal connections and the switched hot wire for the running lights. Then connect your wires accordingly.
I know when I went to the running lights on my bike I had to use the extra ground wire to make it all work.sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002

Thanks to every one for all your help. I can rebuild carbs, master cylinders and brake calipers, but when it comes to electrical, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Unfortunately no, I never could. I ordered a set of single filament 2 wire signals, so those should work just fine. I hope!
