    1983 GS1100 Battery Sensor

I have been reading through past threads regarding the Battery Sensor wire which controls the battery light on the dash panel.

It looks like I could just stick the sensor in one of the battery holes, as I have the push in type caps.

How have others handled this without removing the bulb from the dash?

If you put it through one of the caps, it will probably not seal properly, and you will have battery acid vapors floating around, wreaking havoc.

To turn the light off, find the connector that is about 10-12 inches above the sensor. Disconnect the connector, then run a wire from the terminal on the bike side (not the one you just removed) to a switched 12-volt wire. You can use any of the three switched fuses in the fusebox for this.

The sensor does not tell you anything about charging status, it only alerts you to low battery acid level, but only in the cell in which it is installed.

iv'e always stuck mine in the cap opening like ccm911 asked about, with no leaks, but even with that it sits higher then stock, causing the light to come on anyway. Steve, ill take your advice at my next battery purchase, because i'm sure that the cap is long gone by now. Thanks

When consulting the magic 8 ball for advice, one must first ask it "will your answers be accurate?"

Good stuff guys. I was actually worried about acid leakage, so I will take the advice of Steve. Now I think I may have some extra wires with bullet connectors that I can plug in where the sensor wire hooks into the harness. Then I can hook the other end to a switched connection and be done with it.

I really appreciate your feedback Steve and Glen.

I can't remember exactly how I did mine, I know I used a quick disconnect in line fuseholder with fuse, one end attached to my postive battery terminal and the other attached to the battery probe, I did it in a way that I could return it back to stock should I ever need or want to.

I have a second fuse block for extra stuff, such as my grip heaters, Fiamm horns, coil relay, wideband connection, etc.. I just ran mine to an extra fuse there and it is very happy. Silly idea to begin with, as the battery manufacturers decided a long time ago.

Get a gel cell and no more worries, just disconnect the sensor..

Mine actually fit fine in one of the battery holes. And the airbox fit fine.

Simply disconnecting the sensor is the same situation he has now, and the warning light is ON.

The sensor has to be connected to a switched voltage source to turn it OFF.
