I know electro sport was bought out a few years back by Procom and haven't seen a lot of bad press since then. The only thing I can tell is people are hooking up a lot of extra lighting/accessories, heated vests etc. and really making the stator r/r system work hard. The only thing I run is stock headlight, tail light, and gauge bulbs nothing else. I would think this stator and r/r could handle that much without overtaxing it. I'm eliminating the wire to the handlebar for the on/off switch which my bike don't use or have and wiring stator direct to rr unit. ground wire will run direct to battery. I replaced all the connectors on the new stator and r/r unit and soldered them on and will use dielectric grease on them. I'm sending my old stator off to be rewound for a backup. At least I got roadside assistance on my insurance coverage .... Really cant understand why the original would fail with only 10,000 original miles on the bike. Only had 7,000 on it when I bought it and one owner. They surely don't go bad from sitting do they? I had my 81 650 with about 35,000 on it and never a problem.
    good luck...................

      Dave 17954;
      The faster the rotor magnets spin by stator windings, the more output the stator can deliver- if given the opportunity courtesy of R/R. You need enough at 1500 rpm to keep bike happy; unfortunately as revs go up with the standard shunt R/R, the stator is making more power than bike needs, so R/R has to dump it. All this produces heat in stator. Now imagine if you could open circuit momentarily the stator's windings to decrease its output at those times when bike didn't need any more power- it would run cooler.This is what a series R/R does. If you can afford one, look for a Compufire or a Shindengen SH-775.
      At the very least , get a used 30 yearold Shindengen R/R - these have proven to be more rugged than the stock R/R's and are likely better than most of the aftermarket ones. Charging system failure is real common, so why not improve your odds!

        I don't know who wound them, and I don't even remember if they were original or aftermarket.

        I will be checking out his work, as we have at least two bikes here that will get them installed, so will report back with y'all (or is that all y'all?) shortly.

        There is a bit of a quantity discount, and I offered to be a middleman, so I might be able to offer freshly re-wound stators at a very attractive price.
