    Timing Issue (Help)

Hi, getting closer to getting the bike running (GS750 (1977/78) but I am struggling with the points.

I have followed the manual & set about adjusting them (set the gap first, then moved onto the timing)

My problem is this: Which mark do I use to set the timing?

    See here

Is it the one to the left (with the white mark on it) or the one to the right (near the four)

I suspect it is the lefthand one....heres my issue, I cant adjust the plate far enough to allow the point to open as it hits the timing mark.

    Any thoughts?

The white marked on the left next to the 'F' is for timing, sub 1500rpm, and the other one on the right is where the marks should line up above 2300rpm to the full 'advanced' position.

Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

There should be a total of THREE marks, if you look carefully.

As you rotate the crank clockwise, you will see an unlabelled mark (the one on the right, in your picture), followed by another mark with an F, finally followed by a mark with a T.

Expanding on what Tatu mentioned, the T mark is for Top Dead Center. The F mark is for Fire (that's when the points should open) and the unlabelled mark is for the advanced firing position.

Don't forget that you have similar marks half-way around for the other two cylinders.

Thanks for the responses, so how come I can't adjust it far enough to get the points to open?

I'm having the same problem, I can't get anywhere near the mark!
