7 wire R&R 1979 gs1000
I have searched this forum for hours, but can't seem to find the answer I need. I have a 1979 gs1000 that needs a regulator. Thought I would switch over to a R&R unit to clean up the wiring and provide better charging. That being said, I have a brand new 7 wire unit with: 3 yellow wires, 1 red, 1 green, 1 orange, and 1 blue. I know the 3 yellows are stator, I believe the green is ground, and the red is fused to battery. I am confused as to where the blue and orange wires go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Tags: None

What numbers are on this 7 wire R/R???? some of these were designed to be used with genuine alternators ( field strength controlled by the R/R ) found on some yamahas and hondas. The orange and blue wires make me suspect this.1981 gs650L

Hi,
I get a feeling that the r/r unit you bought is not compatible with this old GS bikes. You'll need to find some documentation for the part you bought; manufacture part number, pinouts, specs, diagram, etc.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

You are correct! I found out this is a Yamaha unit that is not compatible with it. So to fix this bike to ride I stole a 6 wire honda unit off of another bike I have. So now I just have to figure out where the 6th wire goes. I think I read on basscliffs site the it goes to 12 volt switched? The only other questions I have is the wires that was unplugged from the rectifier. Especially the Red one and the Green/white. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!
