    Suzuki GS1100 81 wiring coils

    Hello All,

This is my first post and my first bike and I'm stuck! The bike is a a Suzuki gs1100 81. I purchased the bike a few months ago in good condition with all original parts. After a truck busted my tail light at a stop sign I decided I would start customizing it.

    MY QUESTION
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I properly wire my coils to my points and is a wiring in a relay a must?

I'm trying to run coils directly into the ignition switch and points. Is this possible?

I tore out the original wiring harness and started to rewire everything. I'm going for a bare bones bike. No turn signals, indicators, ect. just the basics to make it run.

I have everything properly wired to my knowledge besides the COILS..... I wired a push start button in but have no kill switch. When I turn my key in the ignition switch my lights come on and when I push the start button my starter motor just keeps cranking.

Left side coil = O/W wire and White wire
Right side coil= O/W wire and Black wire

There are two wires, Blue and Green, that are running form my stator.

There is also a Green/yellow wire coming out of my starter cover I am unsure what it goes to...

There shouldn't be any problems concerning working parts with the bike since it was running great before I tore it down.

    PLEASE HELP!

Well, now you gone and messed with it, so "running great" is just a memory.

Anyways, an 81 gs1100 should have electronic ignition - no points. Originally, the fuse box fed the key switch which fed the kill switch which fed the starter button and the ignition system. The O/W wire on coils needs 12 volt positive- this same 12 volt positive needs to connect to ignitor to get firing.
    Maybe this diagram will help

      Greetings and Salutations!!

      Hi Mr. HoldemHams,

Head over to my website. You will find simplified wiring diagrams that you might be able to use as a template, then modify to fit your bike. You'll also find lots of general maintenance tips and "how to" guides, factory wiring diagrams, and other documentation. Since I really don't know what you've done to your bike it's hard to make any recommendations. But you'll find a couple of maintenance lists in your "mega-welcome". These are pretty much mandatory for a safe and reliable motorcycle. Skipping steps or taking shortcuts will be frustrating at best, dangerous at worst.
