Not Charging
I have to jump start my bike every time. When it sits at an idle and i hook up a DVOM to the battery, it holds at about 12.5V. When I bring the RPM up to 5,000 my Haynes manual says it should be holding around 13.5-14V, well it does not. It still stays around 12.5V. And today at a stop light it blew a fuse and would not restart until i jumped it again. Where should I start??Tags: None

Good that you have a meter and know how to use it.
You can start by:
- telling us which fuse blew.
- do more testing of charging system, with stator papers (on GSR homepage) or other testing procedure. Big test is the stator ohm test (continuity) and open circuit voltage test. But lots of other things can cause "not charging", so do all the test.
- tell us more what you find.
- put your general location in user profile (goto UserCP), then that shows up in every post. Maybe is someone nearby.

Cliff provided you with the Mega Welcome greeting in your first thread http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=207563, but apparently you haven't looked at it.
If you go back you will find a ton of important information which will help make your bike properly reliable, including how to check the charging system. Oh, and the service manual tell you how to check the charging system too.Ed
To measure is to know.

Hi,
When you say "jump start" I hope you are jumping from a car that IS NOT running or a battery boost device. You will fry your r/r if you jump from a running car. You also need to clean EVERY electrical connection and ground on the entire bike. When you replace the r/r unit be sure to run the ground wire directly to the negative terminal of the battery.
