    Issues after a handle bar swap

    Hey guys, I am having a problem with my 82 gs650. I recently changed the bars after going down on the bike about 2 weeks ago. Lucky for me I was alright and only my bars were bent. But now post swap, I can no longer get the bike to fire, it will turn over. I am convinced that it is something electrical in the bars that I over looked. The bike ran find before the swap and was ridden home after going down.

    bypass the clutch safety, if you have one. After the dump, before the new bars, did it start?

      Yes it started before that swap. Also have done the clutch safety bypass, it will turn over just not fire, wondering if it has something to do with the kill run/off switch?

        You can test with a voltmeter but if its cranking the kill is working. click it off then try to crank. Do you have spark? Fuel?

          it wont turn over if the kill switch is damaged. did you bash anything else in the spill, ignition cover maybe?
          1978 GS1085.

            update today it fired for a second and cut out, may be more on the carb adjustment side of things now.

              I don't know how your switches are constructed, mine is an earlier model. I seem to remember having to re-solder a wire on the right hand switch when I changed my handlebars. It was tight trying to separate the switch halves and a power wire came loose. It's been a while so it's not real clear.

                Problem fixed. Had my throttle cable in the wrong slot and was flooding my carbs out.

                      Right but thats a different type of damage that won't lead to a no-crank condition so it doesn't apply to his point in this thread. It means your kill switch is always on, a malfunction not applicable to the OP issue.
