Help with 1982 GS1100e on/off switch
First off like to say what a fine site we have here and this would be my very first post, so, any input would be appreciated. Here goes. I acquired a 1982 Gs1100e thru a friend who had stored it in a storage unit . It is the missing the correct on/off handlebar switch. I believe this switch , which was inside a box of bolts and knick knacks , belongs to eitheir a gs450 or gs850. I was looking at ebay and see that the Gs1100e on off switch end connector has 2 female pigtails. But the one I have has 1 pigtail that has been jumped together. I would like to know if its possible to use this gs450 gs850 switch by somehow re-arranging the wires? Does this make sense? thanks fellarsTags: None

any kill switch will work. disconnect your jumper wire and connect up the kill switch. as long as it has power going to the switch, and then power coming out when the switch is set to RUN then it will work.
the jumper cable simply bypasses the switch so it is ON all the time.
welcome to the site by the way.....1978 GS1085.

Help w.Switch
The gs850 end connector does plug in to the gs1100e , with no problems. But except i think the wiring part of the 2 are different. There is no power to the coil. No spark and the pigtail end while connected has constant power and when the yellow/green wire is plugged into it . It starts the starter with out pressing the button, but no spark,no power to the coils.

there should be an orange/white wire that goes to the kill switch. when the kill switch is made it powers the coils via orange/white wire, and the starter button.
when the starter button is pressed it powers the starter solenoid via yellow green wire.
i hope that makes it a little easier to work out......1978 GS1085.

Welcome to the forum, Brad. You might want to start by downloading a copy of the factory service manual for your 1100 (great bike, if I say so myself ;-) from Bass Cliff's website: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/
I expect he will make his grand welcome if you'll introduce yourself on the GS Motorcycle Discussion Area or owners forum. You'll also be able download service manuals to other models (e.g., GS850) and check the wiring diagrams for them.
Good luck!
