LED Headlamp... Vetter?

Any thoughts on the fit and function of this light in a Vetter Windjammer fairing on my 79 850? The light that came with my fairing is rather weak and I need to replace it.

Does it cost a lot? Something to consider.

That is manufactured by Truck-Lite (P/N 27270C). It is a drop-in replacement for standard 7" incandescent bulbs. (I don't know that the vetter isn't 6".) I have one of the previous generation Truck-Lite LED lamps, and it is awesome. This new one is even brighter.

Shop around and see if you don't have to pay Küryakyn tax. A little Googling: Drivetrain America. $100 less. I think for around $200 that's pretty nearly a reasonable upgrade for any 7" light. That is, if you want hte illumination and reliability.

If the Vetter takes H4 bulbs, the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs are quite good and a lot less expensive, but obviously won't last as long as an LED.

Be aware that any power saving over an incandescent (probably not much) is actually power that a stock regulator will shunt back to the stator to be dissipated. Probably not a problem (do the math), but just be aware that this isn't likely to solve any electrical problems. If you're willing to spend $300 on a headlight, look into a series regulator, so you never burn another stator. Come to think of it, you can get one now for the money you'll save not buying from Küryakyn.

Which Windjammer do you have? On my WJ III, I was going to do a Halogen conversion (from the Sylvania SilverStar), but the cavity isn't deep enough. I'd have to cut open the inside of the WJ to make room for the connector.

Not sure if the later models have that same issue or not.....

Edit - OK, now I actually looked at the link

They give dimensions, but not for the depth of the overall unit. Since the connector is on a pigtail, and not directly in the back of the unit, it may not have the same clearance issues.

All the Vetters I have seen (and it's been quite a few) have had 7" lights.
