R/R blew leaving me stranded lastnight
Well the rr crapper out lastnight on my way home at 3am. Went back to investigate ad all I knew lastnight was the main fuse kept popping. Today when I put in a new fuse and started it the rr started smoking. Turns out the white and blue wire melted into and shorted the orange I believe and shorted the two out. Once I removed the rr I noticed it was burnt on the back side. So it definitely needs replacing. We have an ATV and motorcycle slavage yard around here w some older bikes not many new ones at all. What Honda rr's are good ones? Any from the older CBs? Any parts bike there is at least as old as the mid 80s keep in mind. Ihave the list of compatible ones but which if any are better from older bikes?
Thanks in advance, BenTags: None

Lots of honda R/R's (actually Shindengen) from 1978 and up are decent- you got the list,so find one. But, you might have noticed the info on the SH775 R/R ?? consider it for an upgrade, though you are unlikely to find one used. What ever you do, go thru the charging system tests and make sure your entire system is OK.1981 gs650L

If you consider anything less than the Shindengen SH-775/Polaris part 4012941 you are doing yourself a disservice. The series R/R's are the answer to the charging problems. You might get a scrap shunt R/R part for $20.00, but even the best of that type is still by design hard on the stator by comparison. The SH-775 will cost three times as much but it's something you won't have to worry about again.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

As OldVet said, if you are going to spend money on a replacement R/R, you should really consider the Shindengen SH775.

Clean and redo your connectors. I like to solder the stator wires and the main power out wire. Correct the R/R factory ground from the factory location at the starter solenoid to something that is less prone to failure as a ground. I like to add a jumper from the existing ground to the battery, and also to the frame. If you don't fix the connectors and the grounds, you may be changing parts regularly.Last edited by 850 Combat; 06-27-2013, 07:00 PM.sigpic Too old, too many bikes, too many cars, too many things

I definitely agree with Steve and Oldvet66, after the reading I've done, and suggestions I've received from others. I've got a SH775 r/r on order myself, and dying until it gets here next Monday. My GS450's been grounded for almost 2 weeks now.

Also, read this:
http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ighlight=sh775
After reading through all of that, I was convinced the SH-775 was the way to go.
