    odd questions about Stator replacement

My Tach. does not work, and it seems like I will ned this to test the functioning. I assume that based on the overall Tach I can figure out what 4000 would be like. How imparative of the testing process is this at exactly 4000rpm?

Also, is it possible to use RTV instead of the gasket?

    Hi,

A tach is not critical. Just make sure you are charging at 14.5v or so when you rev it up.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Well, it's certainly possible, but don't do it. Break down and buy a gasket. You'll probably need an impact driver as well to remove the three screws securing the stator. Even if you get them loose without one, you'll want the impact to reinstall the screws with the new stator in place.

And don't make the same mistake I did: Buy Loctite while you're out shopping and don't forget to use it. Clean the oil, etc out of the screw holes with a shot of ether or something similar, so the theadlocker works correctly.
and God said, "Let there be air compressors!"

        Use the correct Loctite color.
        Purple: low strength
        Blue: medium (recommended)
        Red: High (never remove)
        Green: Penetrating

Use Purple or Blue if you use any at all.

when you do the Phase B tests measuring leg to leg voltage (VAC) there is about a 20% difference in voltage between 4K and 5K RPM.
