    Possible short?

Hey I hope someone can help me with this. I got an 81 GS450 from a guy who likes to mod. He took out the key and put in a button (on/off) for ignition. The bike ran fine for a while, then I had a close encounter with a deer and wouldn't you know, the button popped out and I messed up the headlight switch. With no way to turn off the button, I had no headlight, but the taillight stayed on until the battery died.
Fast forward to today. I put everything back together, even got a key ignition off a same year/model, but now I get no lights at all and when I step on the back brake, the bike stalls.
I'm hoping I can fix this without taking apart the whole electrical system. Any thoughts?
