Genrator
Ok, so I finally broke down and had a real mechanic test everything, and my generator is bad. Easy enough, except I'm having a devil of a time finding one. I've struck out at all the area salvage places. Anyone know of another source? Sorry this is my first restoration project, and I don't know where to find parts really. 1981 GS1100E. Thanks for any help you can provide!!Tags: None

Technically speaking, the combination of the rotor magnets and the stator is an "alternator".
On a car "alternator" the rectifier and regulator are included in the package, on the bike, they are all separate pieces.

In principle, any AC electrical generator can be called an alternator, but usually the term refers to small rotating machines driven by automotive and other internal combustion engines. An alternator that uses a permanent magnet for its magnetic field is called a magneto.

I would NOT put used parts back in. This is an area where the GS has its weakest point...the charging system. New stator, new series type R/R and most likely a battery as well.sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002
