constant spark
I just bought a 78 GS550 that already had the Dyna S e ignition on it. Put a new battery in and when I turn the ignition on I get what sounds like a power arc inside the motor and I get constant spark on 2 and 3Tags: None

If you mean it is sparking on both the power and exhaust strokes then it is a wasted spark ignition system I think.

It's more likely you get a spark when you turn the ignition switch off, igniting whatever fumes are left in the cylinders causing a chuffing sound. It's perfectly normal for a Dyna-s, but might make you jump every now and again.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

OK The spark is just a constant arc across the plug electrodes on 2 and 3 after I turn on the ignition. When I crank the motor over the spark stops. Both 1 and 4 have good intermittent spark. I have ordered new coils not sure if that will solve the issue since 2 and 3 run off the same coil. I do not know if it is the Vande de Graff as the Dyna S was on the bike when I bought it. If you have any other resolutions I would appreciate them. Did find out from Dyna Tek that you cannot have a battery charger hooked to the battery or you do get the constant spark. I have disconnected the charger and still get the symptoms I have stated above. So really just looking for solutions as to why I get the constant spark out of 2 and 3.Last edited by Guest; 09-06-2013, 11:07 AM.

The coils only fire when the ignitor tells them to. The ignitor only tells the coils to fire when the signal generator tells it that it is time to fire.
On the Dyna S, both are built into the one piece, which resides on the right end of your crankshaft.
In other words, it sounds like your Dyna S is faulty.

I run a battery tender all winter without a problem with my Dyna-s.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.
