How to hook up stock coils
I went back to stock coils but I'm not sure how to hook them up. There is a positive and negative post coming out of them but I don't know where to hook up the wires coming off of the contact breaker and the wires coming off the starter button. I have the HAYNES manual but it's not showing anything about the coils.Tags: None

maybe a wiring diagram or service manual with one here. Note that at the bottom of the menu theres another tab that says MORE MANUALS HERE for a list of many more.
MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550
NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.
I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Thanks for the links but I was still not able to find a diagram with the positive and negative marks on it.

In the words of member "bwringer":

One thing that would help answer your question would be if you would please give us a clue what bike you are working on.

Sorry, yes its for a 78 gs 550E, I guess I just assumed this negative positive thing would be standard across the board, but I guess not.

Yes, it's somewhat standard, but earlier bikes, like yours, have points, bikes from '80 and up have electronic ignition, and the connections are different.
On your bike, the orange/white wires will go to the coil + terminal (on both coils), the white wire will go to the coil (probably the left one) that fires 1&4, the black wire will go to the coil (probably the right one) that fires 2&3.
And, ... there should not be any wires going to the coil that are connected to the starter button.
