    Picture of GS450 83 CDI

    Hello!
Can anyone help me with getting a picture of a Ignitor on a GS450 83-88, connected to the wiring harness so i know where all the cable have to go

This is a picture of how it looks disconnected on a 83 GS450

Just wondering how you got a picture of something that does not exist?

There are many, MANY discussions on this, but our bikes do NOT have "CDI".

"CDI" stands for "Capacitor-Discharge Ignition". Our bikes have a traditional INDUCTOR discharge ignition, the inductors are known as "coils".

The item you have pictured is known as an "ignitor", which, unfortunately, happens to be a poor choice of words, as it doesn't really 'ignite' anything.
Older bikes used mechanical points to control the flow of electricity through the coils. When the points opened, you got a spark. The 'ignitor' is merely a box of transistors that does the same thing that the points did, nothing more. An exception to this was the ignitor installed on a few '82 bikes and most of them from '83 and up. It also included the ignition advance built in, to replace the mechanical advance of earlier models.

For comparison, a "Capacitor-Discharge Ignition" has a large capacitor that is charged. When triggered, it will be discharged to provide the spark.

Thank you for clearing it up for me
I am quite new here, and english is my second language, so i might not spell and know every word

But it is the Advanced Ignitor i need a picture of. I have a 83+ engine and a 82 wiring harness, so i have to modify it a bit, which is a bit hard when i don't know that cables go where

Sorry, I did not notice your location.

One reason I did not make note of it is because your English (and spelling) is better than a lot of native Americans.

I only noted the tendency to call any electronic ignition system "CDI", which was, indeed, a performance upgrade on cars, 'back in the day'.

I don't know if there were actual differences in the wiring, but I do think that they used different connectors, so you would not install the wrong ignitor. I would have to examine wiring diagrams for both bikes to see if that helps.

It would also help if someone that was more familiar with the twins would step an and provide a good answer.

I am part english My dad is born and raised in the UK, so my english should be okay, but talking about mechanics and stuff like that, i am not that good at getting the right words out

The old igniter without the advanced bit built in, has 7 wires coming out of it, while the new igniter has 8, so i have to find out what the last wire does. I also need to connect them all to the write leg in the igniter, which is a bit hard without knowing the colors
          - The old one has cables coming out of it, but the new one does not.
